. the beginning .Silence.
Cool, bitter, familiar silence.
Pain. It used to be a lot sharper, but time and fatigue have numbed it down a bit. Now it just thumps, dull and resilient, all over her body.
 
This was never supposed to have happened.
Heavy lidded eyes stared dully in the darkness. The few non broken and bruised fingers twitched, paused. Reached for something and scraped against the cold floor. Reached out again. Touched the hilt, carefully slid it closer. Grasped the firm, smooth wood, perfectly sized for her hand.
Raises the knife.
 
“You know that doing that won’t achieve anything.”
Pause.
Eyes slide to the figure, barely visible in the thin light that escapes from the cracks in the ceiling.
Dry lips crack, then twist as the pain comes back again, stronger. Heavy breaths make up the only sound in the room.
“There’s no harm in trying, right?”
“Sooner or later, you’ll have to give in.
It’s for the best, yo
