Art thieves and you : A guideSo you've found someone whose stolen an adopt! What do you do?
Here's a handy little guide :
> Tell the original artist that their work has been stolen
> Report the deviation and the user for art theft

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CONTACT THE ART THIEF/TROLL IN ANYWAY APART TO TELL POTENTIAL BUYERS THAT THE ADOPTABLES ARE STOLEN

I see this so often and it's the most frustrating thing
YOU ARE NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO CONVINCE THEM STEALING IS WRONG
YOU WILL NOT ACHIEVE ANYTHING EXCEPT UPSETTING YOURSELF OR GETTING FRUSTRATED
I know it might seem fun to try and annoy them or argue or "troll them back" but you are not going to be achieving anything of worth; chances are they're just enjoying the attention you're giving them. You are encouraging them to keep stealing art and pissing people off, so just ignore them and try and help them get banned or the deviations removed.

A General Rant On TheftGiven recent events, it's become quite obvious that I am disgusted by art theft, design theft, and tracing.
While the design theft issue had a lot of misunderstanding around it, I'm just gonna go ahead and say it: if you're stealing designs, and you know you're stealing designs, if you are AWARE of the fact that you're taking a design someone else made and pretending it was your original design, you are the scum of the adoptable community.
Secondly, art theft. I don't care, you've no justification for claiming art that isn't yours is yours, or worse yet, selling it for points or actual currency. You are the SCUMTASTIC scum of the adoptable community, and of deviantart in general.
THIRDLY, tracing. I don't care- you haven't got an excuse. Not one. It's theft, it's frowned upon, it's EXTREMELY disrespectful and wrong. If you had enough respect for my work to like it enough to trace it, then you probably should have fucking considered my thoughts on the matter, given that I worked on what

Anyway the reason I wanted to make a journal is that I've really noticed a lot of discouraged artists lately. I keep seeing a lot of "I wish I could draw like you." "you make my art feel like crap" or "They can draw better than me and they are younger than me!" Not to mention I have also seen a lot of "haters" and really mean posts that only create a bunch or drama and some really ticked off people. I've watched some of my favorite artist leave DA due to the drama, or the bullying.
Guys, I don't know why you guys draw, but I draw because I love it and it makes me happy. Its what I just always want to do. Drawing isn't about getting attention or watchers. That honestly doesn't matter! People on here seem to get so wrapped up in who is more "popular" and "better". It makes me so sad. So what if you only have 20 watchers? Towards the end of 2011 my personal world was vastly different than it is now. I had the best friend in the world and I loved her so dearly. I worked hard throughout December, and into January of 2012, to make her Christmas special and I took on a lot of work to accomplish what I had. I drew gifts, I drew Gaia commissions to make money to commission others to draw gifts, I took on art trades wherever possible to earn more gifts, and I made requests to those generous enough to offer their services for free to help me make my friend's Christmas the best that it had ever been. I never thought it possible that the good times that we shared with each other would end. She was the most important person in the world to me.

Like selling them for points or cash or whatever. I'm really sick of reporting and reminding them.

Do you know what frustrates me more than anything?
MORE THAN TINIER.ME ADOPTS?
MORE THAN GOOD ART WITH POOR DESIGNS SELLING FOR RIDIC PRICES?

NORMAL/GENERIC ANIMAL ADOPTS GDI

I'm referring to the hundreds of BLACK WULFS and TABBY CATS and goddamned GRADIENT RAINBOW ANIMALS JESUS CHRIST which are being sold as adoptables.
I DON'T CARE IF IT'S FREE. THAT'S NOT MY ISSUE.

You don't own black cats! Or pigs! or RAINBOW GODDAMNED WOLVES! What gives you the right to sell those designs, then?

I CAN UNDERSTAND PATTERNED ANIMALS, OR ANIMALS WITH ACCESSORIES, WHATEVER.

I'm just sO SOSOSOSOSOSOSOO SICK of seeing a hundred or so normal/generic cats popping up in my inbox erryday, and that people are ACTUALLY BUYING THEM.

WHAT ARE YOU BUYING? THE DESIGN RIGHTS OF A CHARACTER WHICH HAS BEEN USED MILLIONS OF TIMES BEFORE?

The point of adoptables is to buy a unique, individual design. It's not the art, remember- the design.

The worst part is when it's on someone's else lineart. JUST...WHAT ARE YOU DOING...YOU'RE NOT EVEN TECHNICALLY SELLING THE ART.
